On November 16th 1974, scientists sent out a message into outer space, the Arecibo message. Its destination was the globular cluster Messier 13, and the message should take at least 25,000 years to arrive there. The message encodes an image depicting information about its senders, us, the humans from planet Earth.
Last week, our radio telescopes at the VU have picked up a strange signal coming from exactly the same direction. My colleagues quickly dismissed it as noise, but I believe that there is more to it. Could it be a response from intelligent extraterrestrial life to our Arecibo message?
Please help me in decoding the signal!
